Sunday River announces its $4 million capital enhancement plan for the 2011/2012 winter season

Newry, ME (Summer 2011)—For an alpine resort like Sunday River who celebrates a six-month long winter season, the few short months of summer are best spent working on plans for the ski season ahead. This summer, those capital improvement plans will include a $4 million investment into resort in the forms of improved snowmaking, grooming and lifts, road maintenance, and two new real estate developments—one of which will offer ski-in/ski-out single home lots at Sunday River for the first time ever.

Real Estate Developments
Not since the 2006 sale of townhomes in the Tempest Ridge development has there been another on-mountain real estate project at Sunday River. In the coming year, Sunday River will start on not one, but two real estate developments, one located slopeside and the other located just off of the course at the Sunday River Golf Club.

The first development, located just off of the Ridge Run trail, will include 13 single home ski-in/ski-out lots each sized at a little over one acre. With direct access to the popular South Ridge base area, these centrally located lots are expected to go on sale later this summer.

The second development, located just off of the course of the Sunday River Golf Club and south of the resort’s Jordan Grand Resort Hotel, will include nine single home lots ranging between three and four acres in size. The sale of these lots is also expected to start later this summer.

Finally, the second phase of the area’s Tempest Ridge development will also begin later this summer and will include 12 new townhomes to be built just below the townhomes included in the first phase. The Tempest Ridge development is located on the Tempest and Road Runner trails near the White Cap base area; townhomes being built for the second phase are currently on sale now.

For more information on any of these real estate developments, visit the Sunday River Real Estate Office at www.sundayriverliving.com or call (207) 824-5051.

Road Maintenance
Later this summer, Sunday River will begin on the final phase of its Jordan Road reconstruction which will include a 6,000-foot section of road leading to the Jordan Grand Resort Hotel. This maintenance project is expected to be completed later this fall and will dramatically improve the arrival experience for guests staying at the Jordan Grand Resort Hotel and playing golf at the Sunday River Golf Club.

More Snowmaking, More Grooming & Improved Lifts
Last winter, Sunday River was the first resort in the country to open back on October 22, 2010 and six months later, the resort celebrated its second six-month-long season—the longest season on the East Coast. Synonymous with state-of-the-art snowmaking and unsurpassed slope conditions, the resort will add to this reputation with the investment of approximately $300k in additional snowmaking and grooming equipment.

Of course allowing guests to experience such slope care across Sunday River’s eight interconnected mountain peaks is a matter of providing them with an efficient lift system. As such, the resort will also invest approximately $300k in lift maintenance including a new drive, carriers, line equipment, ramps, lift houses and paint. Sunday River currently boasts 16 modern lifts including New England’s only Chondola .
