June
17–19: Trek Across Maine—From the mountains of Sunday River to coastal Belfast, Maine, enjoy the beautiful scenery as you ride 180 miles across the state in support of the American Lung Association. www.sundayriver.com, www.lungusa.org

24: Sunday River Resort Opens for the Summer—With over 50 miles of mountain biking, zipline tours and twin zips, geocaching, and scenic Chondola rides, Sunday River is a perfect summer escape. Hours of operation: Fridays—Sundays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. www.sundayriver.com

July
14–16: New England Forest Rally—The fastest cars on dirt converge at Sunday River for two days of off road racing. The 20th annual New England Forest Rally represents round six of the Rally America National Championship Series and an X-Games qualifier for all the big names.  

16–17: Mollyockett Days—Mollyockett Days is an annual community festival held in the nearby picturesque Bethel Village. Events include foot races, an arts-and-crafts fair, a parade through town, contests, entertainment, a frog- jumping contest, fiddler's contest, plenty of food, and fireworks! www.bethelmaine.com

23: Tough Mountain Challenge—Sunday River’s annual Tough Mountain Challenge is the ultimate event for the thrill-seeking athlete and undoubtedly the hardest race we have ever had at Sunday River. Complete with 15 obstacles, this race spans the distance of a meager 5k, however do not be fooled. It’s the nature of the obstacles that give this race its name. www.toughmountain.com

4–6: Maine State HOG Rally—“Hey ya’ll!” We bet you’re saying to yourself: “What in tarnation am I gonna do next August?” Why don’t you plan to mosey on over to the 16th Annual Maine State H.O.G. 13–14: Maine State Triathlon & Kids Triathlon—Saturday features the fourth annual kid's triathlon, for ages 8–14, and Sunday is the Maine State Triathlon on one of the most beautiful courses in New England with a 1k swim on Songo Pond, 24k road bike and 5.8k cross country trail run. www.bethelmaine.com or (207) 824-2908

September
17: 14th Annual Bethel Harvest Festival & “Chowdah” Cookoff—This food-filled event is the perfect way to take in the flavors of fall amidst the changing colors of the maple trees. October

8: 12th Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship—Each year this unique event draws over 2,500 spectators all lining the course to watch teams of husbands and wives compete for the grand prize of the wife's weight in beer plus cash. In the closest finish ever the winning team took first place by less than one stride ahead of the second place finisher!
