Annual Obstacle Course Race Attracts Thousands

Newry, Maine (Summer 2012)—Sunday River Resort will unleash its own form of tough love on 2,000 preregistered athletes during its 3rd annual Tough Mountain Challenge obstacle adventure race scheduled for July 21, 2012.

“It’s meant to be tough not torturous,” Caroline Ochtera, Tough Mountain Challenge and marketing manager, says. “We want people finishing the race and psyched to sign up for next year’s event, and we want people who are here watching the TMC to have just as much fun as those competing.”

Open to ages 13 and older, the Tough Mountain Challenge starts at 10 a.m. and sends waves of 100 competitors at a time through the 5 kilometer course every 15 minutes.

At 3 p.m. kids ages 4 through 12 get a chance to test their stuff on a free Mini Mountain Challenge course designed just for them just before the overall awards ceremony takes place at the end of the day.

During the day friends, family members, and curious spectators are invited to watch the event for free from any location along the course. Some of the best vantage points for the course include the start/finish area and the Barker Pond net crawl obstacle in the Barker base area.

In addition to the action happening on-mountain, the Tough Mountain Challenge will also feature live music, a barbeque and beer garden, as well as a vendor village. Day care will also be available.

Registration for Sunday River’s 3rd annual Tough Mountain Challenge is still open and available through Active.com.
