Yankee Magazine editors pick resort’s summer park in its “Best of New England” issue
Newry, Maine (May 2012)—Sunday River Resort has been recognized by the editors of Yankee Magazine as having the “Best Mountain Park” in the 2012 Best of New England issue, which hit newsstands in late April.
“Though we are better known for our dependable snow and long ski season, we do run a four-season resort with plenty of fun and activities,” Peter Fallon, Director of Summer Operations, says. “There’s already so much to do in this area, like hiking and kayaking, and every season we add more amenities to ensure our guests have a great time.”
Sunday River’s summer mountain operations, which begin on June 29, include a lift-accessed mountain bike park with 25 miles of terrain, zipline tours and twin zips, scenic chairlift rides, family-friendly geocache and wildlife tours, and plenty of hiking trails across its eight peaks.
Already attracting thousands of guests for Trek Across Maine (a bike-a-thon from June 14–17 to raise money for the American Lung Association) and the New England Forest Rally (two days of racing along the back roads in western Maine on July 13 and 14), Sunday River is host to several popular summer events and activities, such as Western Maine’s Largest Yard Sale on June 30; Tough Mountain Challenge on July 21; and the Maine European Motorcycle Meet from July 26–29.
Summer lodging at Sunday River starts at $99 per person/per night with Bike & Bed packages starting at $49 in June.
Sunday River is located minutes from picturesque Bethel Village in western Maine’s Mahoosuc Mountains. A true four-season destination, the Resort offers eight interconnected peaks of world class skiing and snowboarding, two Grand Resort Hotels, lift-serviced mountain biking, ziplines, and golf at the acclaimed Sunday River Golf Club. Sunday River is a member of the Boyne Resorts family of resorts and attractions.
