Sunday River Resort Invests $5.7 Million
Capital allocated to new terrain park trail, snowmaking, restaurant and glades
Newry, Maine (Winter 2013/14)—Sunday River Resort announced back in April that it will benefit from $5.7 million in capital investments for the coming 2013/14 season. Resort enhancements include snowmaking upgrades, the debut of T72—a new 15-acre terrain park trail, and Camp—a brand new resort restaurant. Additional projects include roadwork into The Glades at Ridge Run real estate development, 60 acres of new and enhanced glades, and lodging upgrades to resort hotels and condominiums.
“These enhancements are steps in turning our resort vision into a reality and are projects that would not be possible without the commitment and support of our parent company, Boyne Resorts, and our homeowners,” Dana Bullen, Resort President and General Manager at Sunday River, says.
For this coming winter, Sunday River has installed 224 new energy efficient SV10 Impulse snowguns manufactured by HKD Snowmakers. As part of the resort’s commitment to improved snowmaking, Sunday River began converting its older snowmaking equipment to SV10s back in 2010, and last year, the resort installed 300 SV10s across Locke Mountain, White Cap, and Barker Mountain.
Trails with this year’s new SV10s include: Lollapalooza, Rogue Angel, T72, and the upper half of Risky Business.
Terrain Park Trail
Sunday River will also debut T72—a 15-acre dedicated terrain park trail that will feature a jump line, 500-foot superpipe, and rail park. This trail is being designed in partnership with X Games medalist and 2014 Olympic hopeful, Simon Dumont, and Snow Park Technologies (SPT) best known for their work on X Games courses.
T72 is located on North Peak between the resort’s Dream Maker and 3D trails – a site recommended to the resort by SPT – and is serviced by the North Peak Express and Chondola high-speed lifts.
Based on an ideal pitch for freestyle terrain and a straight fall line, T72 will encompass 15 acres and measure 200 feet wide and 2,300 feet in length. The upper elevation of the trail will be 1,970 feet and the lower elevation will be 1,260 feet for a vertical drop of 710 feet.
T72 replaces the Rocking Chair Terrain Park and Superpipe located on Barker and Locke Mountains, and is the new home of Simon Dumont’s signature event—the Dumont Cup (March 28-29, 2014).
60 Acres of Gladed Terrain
In addition to the new 15-acre terrain park trail, Sunday River will also unveil two enlarged glades—Hardball and Chutzpah—as well as three newly-cut ones which skiers and snowboarders will find on North Peak, Aurora, and Oz for a total of 60 acres of additional skiable terrain.
By Christmas, Sunday River will open its doors to Camp—a new restaurant with a seating capacity of 300 people. Camp will be the resort’s hottest gathering place featuring an extensive wine list and menu that celebrates Maine comfort food done right.
Camp will be located in the Grand Summit Hotel and will utilize approximately 5,500 square feet of flexible space and have the ability to transition from an intimate restaurant to a larger event space as needed.

To date, Sunday River has benefited from over $35 million in capital enhancements since joining the Boyne Resorts family back in 2007, including a Chondola lift, night skiing, snowmaking upgrades, hotel enhancements, and resort activities like Zipline Tours and Twin Zips.
