Watch the Future of Freeskiing Unfold at the Second Annual Dumont Cup, March 26-27

Professional freeskier Simon Dumont returns home with Peter Olenik, Jossi Wells, Henrik Harlaut, Joss Christian, Tom Wallisch, Mike Riddle, Gus Kenworthy, and Justin Dorey in tow

Newry, Maine (March 22, 2010) – X Game super star and homegrown Sunday River athlete, Simon Dumont, returns to the resort this weekend, March 26 and 27, to host the second annual Dumont Cup. Unlike any freeskiing event in the East, the Dumont Cup gives young freeskiers the chance to compete with their idols.

For this professional and amateur combined event, amateurs vie for the top 20 spots to compete against the pros. Professional skiers attending this weekend’s event include: Peter Olenik, Jossi Wells, Henrik Harlaut, Joss Christian, Tom Wallisch, Mike Riddle, Gus Kenworthy, and Justin Dorey.

Registration for the Dumont Cup is still open. The Dumont Cup is open to 150 competitors – twice the size of last year’s field. Registration is $100 and includes a lift ticket.The event awards $20,000 in cash and prizes to the top three athletes.

First place cash and prizes plus a one-week scholarship to Camp Woodward, an action sports camp and training facility located in Woodward, Pennsylvania. www.campwoodward.com 

Qualifiers are held in two sessions on Friday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will determine the top 20 amateurs sent to semi-finals on Saturday.

During the semi-finals and finals on Saturday, March 27, professional and amateurs skiers compete side-by-side. Judges determine the top three overall winners as well as a stand-out amateur from the two-day competition.
