Newry, Maine (April 19, 2010) – Skiers and riders won’t have long to wait for the upcoming golf season thanks to the Sunday River Golf Club announcing today its earliest opening ever slated for Friday, April 23, 2010.

“The timing couldn’t be more perfect,” said Dana Bullen, general manager for Sunday River. “Our last day of winter operations is today, Monday, April 19 and now, our guests will only have to wait a matter of hours to take advantage of our award-winning golf course.”

Named the #1 Course in Maine for a fifth consecutive year by Golfweek magazine, the Sunday River Golf Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., and features an 18-hole championship course that winds through one of Maine’s most picturesque mountain settings.

Head superintendent David D’andrea is thrilled with how the course fared over the winter. “You don’t often see an April opening with conditions like these here in the mountains,” said D’andrea. “The tees, the fairways, the greens—they came through in perfect shape.”

Golfers can take advantage of the Club’s April opening with Golf and Stay Getaways starting at just $99 per person from now through May 31. Getaway packages include 18-holes of golf, use of a golf cart, plus lodging and breakfast at one of Sunday River’s two Grand Resort Hotels.
