New this summer, Sunday River introduces the Chondola for scenic rides and mountain bike transport, as well as six new miles of mountain bike terrain for beginners and intermediates.

June 24, 2009 (Newry, ME) – Sunday River officially shifts gears into summer with the opening of the Sunday River Mountain Bike Park and start of the resort’s summer activity calendar set for this Friday, June 26.  Located less then a tank of gas away from points as far south as Boston, Mass., Sunday River moves from recent buzzword “staycation” to “playcation,” offering guests an entire menu of adventures to experience.  Additional summer activities available to guests include golf and guided or unguided ATV/Ranger, fly-fishing, mineralogy and canoe/kayaking tours.

New this summer, Sunday River introduces the Chondola for scenic rides and mountain bike transport, as well as six new miles of mountain bike terrain for beginners and intermediates.  The $7.2 million Chondola – part gondola and part chairlift – provides a seven minute ride to North Peak where the resort’s system of mountain bike and hiking trails branch from.  The eight-person gondola cabins are reserved for pedestrians, while the six-person chairs are reserved for mountain bike transport.

Sunday River’s hours of operation for mountain biking and scenic Chondola rides are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.  Mountain bike adult all day tickets with Chondola access are $27; trail access only tickets are $10. Roundtrip Chondola rides are $8 (ages 5 and under ride for free). Guided tours (ATV/Ranger, fly-fishing, mineralogy and canoe/kayaking) can be booked seven days a week.  (800) 543-2754
