The 6th annual Dumont Cup returned to Simon's home resort of Sunday River this March as the only major freeskiing event in the East and the biggest pro-am competition in the world. Following the debut of halfpipe and slopestyle freeskiing in the Olympics in Sochi, this year's Dumont Cup promises to be the biggest and best ever.
Ranked as a Platinim event by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP), the Dumont Cup draws the best amateur freeskiers from across North America and gives them a chance to compete against the sport's top pros. In 2013 it was Nick Goepper who took the top honors and became the first two-time Dumont Cup winner, followed by Gus Kenworthy in second and Joss Christensen in third. The winning trio managed to hold off an impressive amateur field as well as a pro roster that included Jossi Wells, Colby West, PK Hunter, Matt Walker, JF Houle, LJ Strenio, Alex Beaulieu-Marchard, and of course Simon himself.
This year the event moves to T72, Sunday River's new terrain park on North Peak, promising a bigger and better course than ever. Simon will lead the design of the course once again.
With $20,000 in cash up for grabs and AFP points on the line you can expect top Olympic and X-Games pros returning this year as well as another big amateur field. Stay tuned for dates, details and registration!
