Hiking
Hikers will find a variety of options ranging from short day trips to multi-day wilderness excursions. Mount Will, just over a mile east of the turn for Sunday River Road, is a short loop trail with great views of the Androscoggin Valley. Nearby Evan's Notch State Park offers a range of day hikes. Grafton Notch State Park is home to several easily accessable waterfalls, the classic short hike to Table Rock, and is the starting point for overnight trips in the Mahoosuc Range as well as the new Grafton Loop Trail. For those willing to venture just a little further afield, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are just an hour away.
Lakes & Rivers
The classic river outing in the area is a canoe trip down the Androscoggin. Trips from a few hours to a full day are possible, and you can bring your own boat or use boats and transportation from local outfitters. There are plenty of options for boating, swimming and fishing in the region, and white water rafting is available just over an hour north.
Bethel
Just six miles from Sunday River, the town of Bethel offers numerous local shops and dining options, a movie theater, water slides, and several outfitters and guide services which can help you plan activities. There is also a full calendar of events taking place through the summer and fall.
