The 2007 season blog is archived for your viewing.
The course is now in tip top shape and the bugs are getting out of town. To celebrate, I'll embed an ad for you to view.
Caddy tip #10:
Don't play with a torn acl and a broken leg.
Mike Cullity of Golfweek Magazine recently toured Maine courses for an article for the magazine and website. He was followed by photographer Tracy Wilcox.
Check it out here: http://www.golfweek.com/lifestyles/story/maine-feature-062308
There's also a slideshow here:

They saved the best for last in the slideshow so be sure to wait for it, or just skip till the end. :)
Caddy Tip #9:
Think you are being sneaky by playing with a Titleist range ball? You're not. Most are designed to fly only 80% of the distance of a regular ball.
Want to get the best Stay and Play deal available? Does a bear ___ in the woods?
Now through June 30 you can get a stay and play deal valid through the rest of the season Sunday-Thursday for only $109 per person per night. The beauty of this deal is that you can stay on a Saturday night and play on a Sunday if that suits your fancy. Just watch out for those bears. Call us up at (800) 543 2754 to book this one or call up the pro shop if you want green fees only for $80 if purchased by June 30 - same Sunday through Thursday caveat.
Caddy Tip #8
If it is wet outside consider using a steeper swing angle by standing closer to the ball. It will reduce torque and make the club less apt to twist out of your grip.
The week has arrived. Torey Pines is the place. The US Open is the race. The marquis pairing for the first two rounds is Tiger Woods, Phil Michelson and Adam Scott. Of course, Woods has not played since having knee surgery in April. Phil should be ok, as long as he can avoid blow ups like the youtube below. Even the pros can make an 11 folks.
You can easily play Sunday River in morning, then catch the action of the US open in the afternoons. Weather for the coming second half of the week and weekend is forecast to be dry and cooler with highs in the 70's.
Caddy Tip #7:
Don't automatically re-tee if you hit a wayward shot. Inquire if you may have hit into a lateral hazard. Your score will be improved if you can drop further down the hole.
Up at Sunday River for a Golf and Stay this summer? Want to let'er rip on the trails? Check out these babies that just arrived. When the Mountain Bike Park opens we'll be doing ATV tours on these brand new 3 and 5 passenger ATV's. Guides from Sun Valley Sports will be available on site to get you into the backcountry. The fun starts in late June. Pics below.
Caddy Tip #6:
When you are on the course, you should avoid high speed thrills and keep control of your cart. Save it for the ATVs.
Sunday River Golf Club Announces Greg Perry as Director of Golf
Greg Perry, 39, of Bethel, Maine has recently been named Director of Golf at the Sunday River Golf Club in Newry, Maine. Formerly Pro Shop Manager at the Club, which is owned and operated by Harris Golf, Perry spends his winters as Director of Sunday River's Perfect Turn Ski School.
"Our goal is to give our players the greatest golf experience they will ever have," said Perry. "Course Superintendant Dave D'Andrea and his staff deserve praise for the pristine condition of our mountain course, which is truly the gem of the Harris Golf family of courses."
To the question of a favorite hole on this critically acclaimed layout Perry replied, "there's no doubt that the tee shot on #12 is unrivaled and that our finishing hole is fantastic, but really all 18 could be deemed signature holes. My personal favorite changes since it tends to be the last one that I birdied."
JJ the Boyne blogger and I have entered into a not so friendly wager regarding the Celtics vs Pistons Eastern Conference Finals. Since both of us play and blog about golf (Boyne has 8 amazing courses), we thought it prudent to put our team pride on display.
When the Celtics win the series, JJ will be buying two brand new Celtics golf towels. One for me, and one for him to use all season on his bag, in Pistons country, right after being ousted by the green machine.
You can guess what will happen if the Pistons somehow get very lucky and triumph, but I won't get into that.
Rasheed will lose his cool against KG. Tayshuan can't handle The Truth. Ray Allen figures to make baskets eventually. At least Rondo isn't injured. And heck, if we can just win 4 home games, we're golden. I'm feeling confident, and I really need a new towel.
Game 2 tonight at 8:30. Go C's!

Caddy Tip #5:
Don't let the impatient guy in your foursome make you tee off as soon as possible on #1. If the tee sheet allows, let the group in front use their entire 8 or 10 minutes to get near the green rather than boming after them as soon as they hit 2nd shots. Your entire round will likely be more relaxed and better paced.
Just a quick note to let you know that May 22 (this Thursday) is the last day to take advantage of $99 June Golf and Stay Rates. Also the last day to take advantage of $60 June golf rates. Don't say we didn't warn you. All 18 are now open and June will be here before you know it.
Caddy Tip #4
If it is chilly outside your muscles are not as flexible and you may find yourself coming up short on your approach shots until you get loose.
I played 9 on Monday afternoon with a co-worker and a media mogul type from Colorado. He'd appreciate if I asked you to read Freeskier and Snowboard Magazines, so there ya go. He also hit his first drive of the year right down the middle. Good feeling.
I had 5 pars (yes it surprised me too), 1 birdie, 1 bogey and 2 X's. What I learned from my first X is to play short on your second shot into the 5th green. It gets mighty narrow pin high on the 5th. So there's a tip for you. Oh by the way, the range is open for practice. Go hit some.
Word is that the back 9 will be opening in a matter of days. (207) 824 GOLF has the answer.
Caddy Tip #3:
Early in the season it is safe to assume that greens are rolling a tad slower than in mid season.
It will not be all 18 holes right away, but people will be out playing golf starting this Friday. Stay tuned for updates on when all 18 will be open. Check out one of Harris Golf's ads for the Bid Daddy of Golf promotion below. Keep in mind that if you want lodging with your Big Daddy rate then you should call us up at (800) 543-2754 by May 22 to take advantage for just $99. For just golf at the $60 rate then buy your Big Daddy at www.sundayrivergolf.com.
Caddy Tip #2:
Always have a towel. If you're playing without a towel, you might be picking dirt off your clubface with a ____.
The ski area was blessed with 211" of snow this year, which has led to a slightly later opening date than the past few seasons for the Sunday River Golf Club. Mid May is the moving target this year. Could be sooner, could be later. I'll let you know here and you can always give 824-GOLF a jingle. Last year I invted John DiCocco from the New England Golf Guide up to our course. Check out our featured listing from his trip.
The hot deal at this stage is our June Golf and Stay Special for just $99 per person with cart. Must book by May 22. Call (800) 543-2754. Get to the Harris Golf website to book June specials with golf for $60 with cart when booked by May 22.
Caddy tip #1:
9 times our of 10 what is lurking over the back is worse than coming up just short. If you are in between clubs why risk it?
About your blogger:
Been on staff at half a dozen destination and private clubs across the US. Trained hundreds of caddies and looped for dignitaries including former Presidents and movie stars. I'm a 9 handicap and left handed. I might be able to give you quick fix to keep it in play, but I cannot fix your swing. Talk to SRGC pros for that.
