Just for kicks, I went back and looked at Sports Illustrated baseball preview issues....they couldnt be more off in their prections.
Here were their predictions: AL Tigers over Red Sox Yanks over Angles Tigers over Yanks NL Cubs over Diamonbacks Rockies over Mets Cubs over Rockies WS: Cubs over Tigers. So, they had 2/4 AL teams and 1/4 of the NL teams. They predicted TB to finish (80-82) and the Twins to finish last in division at 72-90. Pretty far off in my opinion, unless of course the Cubs should win it all. |

Yep, if Cano had batted .335...we might be playing still. One of the many reasons why the Yanks finished out of the post season mix. I owe someone something for this one. Robby will be back, and will have better year next year.

That won't be good. |

To recall our bet, now that the playoff teams are set, I picked the Dodgers to lose in the first round you chose them to make the NLCS. Don't worry, if the Sox get eliminated by the Angels he'll be back to tell us how meaningless it is to make the playoffs without winning it all. Or if one of his other teams (Giants, Rangers) manages to win it all he'll be here to tell us how great an honor it is to be a NY fan. But then again what do I know, I'm just a bandwagon Boston fan.
In all seriousness, I really feel badly for yankee fans...the few that I work with are in a funk like I've never seen, it isn't even fun sparring with them any more, they just keep acting all depressed like someone took their stadium away or something...oh, wait...oops, nevermind. -------------------- Let my inspiration flow...

First, dont feel sorry for us...really. We knew there was going to be a year that the Yanks were not going to make it. I mean how many teams make the playoffs 13 years in a row (winning 4 WS and losing two in that time)??
I am happy that the Yanks played a bunch of kids this year and that we are going to be dropping payroll next year...all good things. And Zenny, cut it out...you have told us for the last 7 years that making the playoffs without winning it means nothing. So, yes I will remind you of that should the Sox bail before winning it all. You and Andy cannot bait Jr into posting with some silly pictures.....he is way more mature than that. |

And Zenny, cut it out...you have told us for the last 7 years that making the playoffs without winning it means nothing. Please cite one post where I said that. Should be easy if I've been saying it for seven years. I am happy that the Yanks played a bunch of kids this year and that we are going to be dropping payroll next year...all good things. Ok, I'll grant you that they have what, 7 players coming off the books totalling $75 million? But how much do you think they will spend on CC, Manny, and all the other big ticket players that they will most certainly overpay for as they into their shiney new ballpark? -------------------- Let my inspiration flow...

When I said "you", I wrongfully included you with other Red Sox fans who have been saying this.
They will pay big for Sabbathia...as well they should. The guy is a horse. I think we should get Halladay and Sheets, pay them $25 million per year and go for it next year.... |

Its all about cycles...Yankee are in down turn.
On a separate and completely unrelated note, Al David press conference goes down as the single most unprofessional press conference in sports. I am not sure I have ever heard a sports professional ever sell someone out like that before....wow. 45 minutes of bashing his former coach. |

....are nowhere to be found. They are hiding their collective heads in the sand. That is the definition of Bandwagon. They are just throwing ******** under the bus. Great friends. Great fans. Yikes!!!!!! W-E-A-K ![]() ![]() ![]() The bandwagon effect, also known as social proof or "cromo effect" and closely related to opportunism, is the observation that people often do and believe things because many other people do and believe the same things. The effect is often pejoratively called herding instinct, particularly when applied to adolescents. People tend to follow the crowd without examining the merits of a particular thing. The bandwagon effect is the reason for the bandwagon fallacy's success. The bandwagon effect is well-documented in behavioral psychology and has many applications. The general rule is that conduct or beliefs spread among people, as fads clearly do, with "the probability of any individual adopting it increasing with the proportion who have already done so".[1] As more people come to believe in something, others also "hop on the bandwagon" regardless of the underlying evidence. - Wiki ![]() PS. I am not sure I have ever heard a sports professional ever sell someone out like that before....wow. 45 minutes of bashing his former coach. Ususally when a coach gets fired, the team has to keep paying him for the duration of the contract, unless there is a buyout clause or something like that. Not Al. Nope, he's just going to refuse to honor the contract, claiming he had just cause for the firing. Give me a break, Al Davis is the biggest scumbag in sports (makes even George and Hank look pretty damn good by comparison). Goodell has to step in here, IMO. What a great play-in game last night! I'm no Ozzie G fan, but you got to respect the way they stared down elimination for the last 3 games and won them all. Too bad the Rays are going to run right over them. Three playoff games today, gotta love this time of year. The 10:15 start tonight is going to be a killer though. I think we should get Halladay and Sheets, pay them $25 million per year and go for it next year.... I think they should do the same. After all, that's how they got to the point they're at now - overpaying for big-name free agents, losing the 2 draft picks that go with signing them, not replenishing the system that produced Jeter, Posada and Rivera, and not developing their own talent anymore. By all means, "go for it"..... |
