Here is an easy solution to your complaining/ frustration...go somewhere else. The mountain is going to do what is the best for business...like any good business would do. Get over it or take your dollars elsewhere.

BTW, unless Agony had been groomed since Monday, there is no way that trail would have been skiable yesterday.

The original poster may have done that if they knew about all the closings. Fair deal. But when SR has outdated info and posts the wrong info and trail count...how can one go elsewhere when they are there, forked over $70+ and made the trip?

Since the original post, SR and the park crew have stepped up and explained/clarified and updated their website. Fair deal.

I read the mountain report before I went up on Monday and there was mention of potential closures...what else do they need to do? Take out full page ads and buy commercial time on TV?

What about the people that rented a condo on the mountain for $400-600/night for the week? Try dropping a couple grand on a vacation on your 1 ski week vacation a year and see if you would be very happy.

Why would you spend that sort of money to take a ski vacation on the east coast? I don't feel bad for these people. There are plenty of other trails to ski and it gives the park rats a chance to remember how to actually make some turns.

Your judgment of how others should spend their vacation time and $ is not relevant.

People have such a hair across their arses here if you don't play nice. Lighten up...

4 trails equates to 3% of the mountain not being available. I would say that only 3% of the general skiing population uses the RC park on any given day. This isn't a big deal.

So if 3% of your cable or satellite stations went out, and those 3% were Soap channel, game show channel, pope channel, QVC, Nick Jr...you probably wouldn't give a crap. If that 3% was ESPN, FOX, HBO, NBC, ABC...etc...you'd think 3% was alot. B/c I have 2 hours to ski between dropping my kid off at RR and picking him up...I spend most of that time close to So. Ridge...going to Jordan and/or White Heat takes lots of time that I don't really have. YOU don't really need to know why I like Barker/Spruce more than you, and why those closings may affect me more...but they do. Just saying "3% of the mountain is open, get over it" is not very productive.

If the closed trails this weekend are limited to T2, MM, Lower Sunday Punch, and RC, then I'd agree that this is not a major issue. But, if the list also includes Wildfire, Right Stuff, Agony and Southpaw during the parts of the day that the mountain is most crowded, then this is going to create a major traffic jam on the remaining open trails in the Barker/Locke area.

http://www.sundayriver.com/community/index...10656&st=40

what about if next week it includes the entire peak?? according to that website, the SR quad is for 'athletes' only from Tues through Sat.

its definitely going to add some on mountain buzz next week, during the week which is good, so its not all bad, but hopefully it doesnt mean both peaks are out of play. There are some trails that are unlike any others on other peaks (like the chutes), so it will be a loss, but can still see positives on both sides.

SR, will the Locke triple be running midweek next week at least or are both peaks going to be off limits???

I would guss the Locke triple would have to be open or there would be no way to get from one side of the mountain to the other.

here's a 2nd question for management, how come the 12 hour skiing page list night skiing next week from Fri through Sun (27th to the 1st)?? who's going to want to night ski on Sun at the end of NH vaca week?? should that be Thurs to sat (26th to 28th).

and if its not Thurs or Sun, than its not a holiday schedule as its only Fri and Sat night...

Some random thoughts/questions:

1) Does the revenue brought in by the people using the parks cover the cost of building and maintaining the parks, given that their is a dedicated park crew probably not.

2) Will the revenue generated by the world cup event (think of the extra food and beverage income) help fund future park developments, possibly/possibly not but I suspect the mountain is not going to make a loss.

3) Closing 3% of the trails is not a lot, but when you consider they are some most heavily used and easily accessible trails then it is a lot, once you get past southridge heading towards jordan you have much less facilities and much less parking, so that 3% is going to cause a dis-proportionate amount of pain.

now off to ski scraped off trails on Whistler, we've had no snow for the past 10-days and non-forecast until Sunday, combine that with the fact that SR beats Whistler hands down when it comes to grooming and snow-making even with those trails closed SR still looks might attractive

I think the event website means the the Barker quad will be open for athletes only at 8 am. Since it's not a holiday week and only NH vacation week, lifts usually open to the public at 9 am. Long time ago, we got 8 am too (like MA week), then it changed to 8:30 and recently 9.

I will be up and watching the races. Looking forward to it. I hear both sides. I have no problem with it. What a great event for nh vacation week. Maybe some of that snow on sunday Punch gets moved to the park. Either way we will have a nice base come spring.

It is athletes only on the Barker quad for the entirety of the competition? All day every day? Man, if I were from NH, had booked vacation week at SR months ago, only to find that the biggest, best part of the mountain was entirely off limits, I'd be quite unhappy.

Or is it just the first hour that Barker is off limits to the paying public?

Even if Locke is running, it's nearly impossible to get from the top of Locke to places like Right Stuff and points west. Note that Goat Path has been closed.

hopefully you are on to something there, but the time frame should be stated. Especially on sat when it says athletes only at 8 AM when that lift would usually be running for the public (not like any early birds park at Barker on Saturdays or anything...)

on a positive note it would be awesome to be on that lift while the racers were coming down Sunday Punch and into rocking chair.

I hope my parking pass works on that Saturday! icon_eek.gif

For those who will have nothing to ski/ride those days.... Volunteers are needed on all three days. Contact the Sunday River Events department for more info. They are located between the Barker Lodge and the GACP Comp building. I believe you receive a complementary ticket for volunteering (but don't quote me on that).

A comp ticket is of little use to passholders now that blackouts are over. Unless it is good through the ENTIRE 2009-10 season (and not just till Xmas).

Lifts open all next week at 9am. Lift 1 opens at 8am for the racers, and to the public at 9am, that is how I understand it. You will also notice that since yesterday morning Sunday Punch, Agony, Southpaw Crossbow, and Rocking Chair have been listed as closed.
Everyone in here is raising some valid points and I can definately see all sides of the argument. On the upside, we have gotten an awesome powder dump today, and more on the way for Sat/Sun...

Wow, you really are a "glass half empty" type of person, you really need to stop looking at the negative side of things. Just be happy with the fact that a eastern resort like Sunday River is hosting a WORLD CUP. It is not the end of the world if a couple of trails are blocked off.

Obviously, boredom at work is making me butt in about something I really don't care about. But...wtf should I care about World Cup? Big whoop...I don't get cable, so won't see it on TV. Have no time to read the Ski/Skiing magazines I get now. Seriously...some people just don't give a darn and would rather just ski where they planned/wanted/hoped to. Their lives won't end, but they have a right to be disappointed. Maybe diehards on this board care about WC, but the rest of the world probably is sorta clueless (like me...even though I'm up every weekend, still had no clue this was happening next week...just don't pay much attention to snowboard activities). I really don't care about this thing lol...it will not affect my life positively in any way, but possibly negatively b/c of how it's taken over the mountain. If it lowers my pass price, if it means SR sports will give a 75% discount, if it means our locker room won't stink so bad...then I'll care. Otherwise...yawn to the WC.

How was the 3% calculated? Was it # of closed trails divided by total trails? We all know that there really isn't 131 trails.

Personally, I do not think of this as an issue for a season passholder. We have a lot of days to ski. I do, however, think this is a major issue for the day ticket traffic that might only ski 5-10 times a year. There are actually people like that. They are not really represented on this board. But this would be a major inconvenience.

There are parents who do NOT ski that come with their children so that want they can play in a park for a week. If 1 out of the 3 parks are closed without adequate information to the renter, I think that is poor customer service.

Lastly, there are the on-mountain owners that SR could email with the information so that they do not invite up friends and family to their condos.

It is all about communication and consideration. A simple email as a heads up goes a long way. It is kind of like when a certain lift wasn't running during the Christmas break -- nevermind -- I have moved on. icon_smile.gif
