Harding Lee Smith to Open The Mountain Room at Sunday River
The Rooms restauranteur lays out two-phase plan at resort’s mid-mountain Peak Lodge
NEWRY, MAINE (Winter 2016-17)—Harding Lee Smith, chef, and owner of The Rooms Restaurants in Portland, Maine, in conjunction with Sunday River Resort, plans to open The Mountain Room at the resort’s mid-mountain Peak Lodge, accessed by skis, snowboard, or foot by the signature Chondola lift.
The first phase of the Mountain Room’s development will be completed for the 2016-17 ski season. A 20-seat bar with an industrial-inspired design will be installed on the main level of the Peak Lodge. Offerings from the Mountain Room’s full bar include a signature drink called The Happy Place Found and a specialty Bloody Mary, plus craft beers on tap, bottled beer, and wine by the glass and carafe.
A small appetizer menu will be simple and rotational throughout the ski season, with such items as a tuna poke with Sriracha aioli, oysters on the half shell, Montreal poutine, pork belly buns, and more.
For phase two, to be completed for the 2017-18 season, Smith plans to turn The Mountain Room into a full restaurant in the Peak Lodge, open for lunch and dinner.
The Mountain Room joins Smith’s collection of restaurants in Portland, including The Grill Room, The Front Room, The Corner Room, and Boone’s.
A four-season destination which boasts eight interconnected mountain peaks of world-class skiing and snowboarding, Sunday River is located in Newry, Maine, amidst the scenic Mahoosuc Range, and is a member of the Boyne Resorts family of resorts.
