Events Race Into Sunday River Resort During the Month of JulyJuly 2, 2014
Newry, Maine (July 2, 2014)-Sunday River Resort kicks into event mode this month with the first Full Moon Dinner of the summer (July 11) and the return of annual crowd favorites, including the New England Forest Rally (July 18-19), the Northeast European Motorcycle Rally (July 24-27), and the Tough Mountain Challenge (July 26).
July 11: Full Moon Dinner -"Buck Moon"
Also known as the Buck Moon in the Farmers' Almanac, this mid-mountain evening dinner event includes a scenic lift ride to the Peak Lodge on North Peak, where a moon-inspired menu and live entertainment await. Tickets are $39 per adult, $14 per child (ages 6-12), and kids 5 and under eat for free. Reservations are required: 800-543-2754.
July 18-19: New England Forest Rally (NEFR)
The New England Forest Rally is a two-day car race that takes place on the back roads of western Maine and northern New Hampshire. Sanctioned by Rally America, the NEFR is one of six National Championship rallies that take place in the United States. Many local and regional rally enthusiasts like Bethel, Maine native racer Chris Duplessis compete right alongside the top national competitors like Travis Pastrana, an American motorsports competitor and stunt performer. Pastrana has won championships and X Games gold medals in several events, including supercross, motocross, freestyle motocross, and rally racing, and is slated to make an appearance at this year's NEFR. July 24-27: 15th Annual Northeast European Motorcycle Rally
Formerly the Annual Maine European Motorcycle Enthusiasts Meet, the Northeast European Motorcycle Rally is an independently run, international rally for European motorcycle owners and their friends. Weekend festivities kick off from Sunday River's Jordan Hotel and include scenic rides through the Western Mountains of Maine, a visit to a nearby BMW collection, and a vintage show of 1979 and earlier models. July 26: Tough Mountain Challenge
Sunday River's annual Tough Mountain Challenge is back and 3,500 thrill-seeking athletes have pre-registered for this year's event, which is undoubtedly the hardest competition at Sunday River. Competitors will face over a dozen mountain obstacles and some of the most demanding alpine terrain at the resort, spread across a 5k course. Registration for the Tough Mountain Challenge is currently full; spectators can still watch for free and learn more at toughmountain.com.
