Lib Tech's Near Canada Open Returns to Sunday River Resort

The most creative snowboarding competition NEAR Canada hits Sunday River's slopes on March 15, 2014

March 3, 2014

Newry, ME (March 03, 2014)-Last year, Lib Tech, which builds "b*itchin'" handmade boards really close to Canada (but not in Canada) pulled together the Near Canada Open, which is precisely what it claims to be: a rad snowboarding competition near our neighbor to the nord.

Sunday River happens to be near Canada. Thus, Lib Tech is coming back for a second year on March 15 with the help of Snowboarder Magazine, Eastern Boarder, and Crab Grab.

The event takes place on a jib-covered, slopestyle minipipe, which is a super cool format that allows for lots of creativity in riding. The course will be located on the Rocking Chair trail on Barker Mountain.

This year, Lib Tech riders Jesse Wright Burtner, Ted Borland, Brandon Reis, and Sam Hulbert, as well as GNU-sponsored athletes Max and Gus Warbington, will be in attendance.

Arguably the best part about this event is that it's free to enter: You just have to have a valid lift ticket and show up at Barker Lodge between 9 and 10 a.m. on the day of. You also need to be a snowboarder-sorry, skiers-and have a helmet. If you're under 18, you're also going to be a wanting to grab a parent's signature.

In addition to cash, top performers will win prizes from Lib Tech, Poler, Arnette, and other brands, and one competitor will be invited to Lib Tech's Holy Bowly this April in Park City, Utah.
