Sunday River Resort Celebrates Maine Maple Weekend

Sunday River hosts a weekend of maple madness from March 21 to 23, including the season's last mid-mountain Peak Dinner, Sugaring House tours, and more

March 18, 2014

Newry, ME (March 18, 2014)--Maple sugaring has been a springtime New England tradition since before "New England" even existed, and Mainers have been in the syrup business for about three centuries. Sunday River offers an entire weekend of maple-related festivities to coincide with Maine Maple Sunday, a statewide celebration of Maine's rich maple sugaring history.

Sunday River's own Sugaring House, located at the bottom of the Sundance trail on South Ridge, will be open for tours, demonstrations, and free tastings of candy, cotton candy, and syrup-all of which are made on the premises. Sunday River's resort-made syrup is available for purchase at Sunday River Sports, the Mountain Grocer, and both hotel gift shops.

Several resort restaurants and shops will offer specials during Maine Maple Weekend: The Mountain Grocer will stock maple-flavored lollipops, fudge, and whoopee pies. They will also offer an egg and cheese sandwich, served on French toast with maple syrup and a choice of ham, bacon, or sausage. The South Ridge Food Court will serve freshly made pancakes with maple syrup, and in addition to its very popular maple burger, the Foggy Goggle will offer a limited-edition "Liquid Breakfast," which consists of Crown Royal Maple Finished Canadian Whiskey and freshly squeezed orange juice.

The last Peak Dinner of the season, on March 22, will pair a sweeter selection of Merriam wines with its five courses, including some maple-infused fare like maple bacon-wrapped scallops, maple bourbon fondue, and maple-painted duck breast.

Don't miss any of the maple merriment: Book the entire weekend with one of Sunday River's March ski and stay packages, which start at just $125 per person, per night, and include slopeside lodging, lift tickets, and adult ski or snowboard clinics.

Of course, the sweetest deal going right now is the 2014-15 New England Pass spring sale, through April 30. Buy next year's season pass now for the lowest rate and use it to ski for free for the rest of the season, or put $50 down and pay it off through the summer.

Sunday River's March ski and stay deals and spring season pass sale will also come in handy the weekend of March 28-30, when the resort hosts The Sixth Annual Dumont Cup and the Eat the Heat Chili Cookoff and Firefighers' Race. For more information or to book now, visit sundayriver.com or call (800) 543-2754.
