This rally-style ski event is unlike any other challenge in the world. It combines the excitement of downhill skiing with the precision of a timed road rally, all while raising money to support our communities.
During the Master of the Mountain Challenge, participants are asked to ski to a series of trails on Sunday River’s slopes. This timed event aims for contestants to ski certain trails at a controlled-but-aggressive pace. The goal is to come as close to the pre-determined target time as possible. Target times will be posted on the top of each run, not in advance.
Competitors can choose to race is two categories: Elite and Advanced.
Remember: only one winner will be crowned the Master of the Mountain. Do you have what it takes?
About the Challenge
-
The objective is to come as close to the pre-determined target time, which is an aggressive, yet in-control pace. The target times have been determined by our ski patrollers. While the pace is likely to be challenging, it is not designed to be reckless. The one trail you can ski as fast as possible is the giant slalom course on Race Area, where you’ll have to ski both the red and blue dueling courses.
There will be two categories, Elite and Advanced. Each category will consist of five trails. Check points will be positioned at the start of the designated trails, and near the lift at the base of that trail. There will be no timing between segments or the lift rides. How the participant approaches this challenge is up to them, but they just must complete all segments in a four hour time frame.

Liability Waiver here.

The winners will be selected by tallying how close each participant came to the ideal time without being faster than the posted time, plus the fastest race result from the Giant Slalom course. As in enduro racing, there is a greater penalty for being faster than the ideal time than slower. The goal is to reward precision and skill rather than pure speed.
There will be one overall winner crowned for the Elite and the Advanced Challenges, plus prizes for the top three fundraisers. Awards for the winners will be announced soon.
The $50 registration fee includes a commemorative patch. $50 lift tickets will be available for non-season passholders. We suggest a fundraising minimum of $150 per competitor, with prizes for assigned fundraising levels.
