Ho, Ho, Ho! Over 200 Skiing Santas Hit the Slopes for a Good Cause
NEWRY, MAINE (December 2, 2018)—What has become a true holiday spectacular in the last 19 years, Sunday River held its annual Santa Sunday event today. Over 200 Saint Nicks skied and snowboarded down the Maine ski area's slopes to raise money for The River Fund. Paired with a new 5K event on Saturday, December 1, Sunday River raised $4,000 over the weekend, which is the highest donation amount in the event's history.
After a thorough inspection of their holiday garb and a $20 donation to The River Fund, each Santa rode the South Ridge Express chairlift in great glee before making their way down the Broadway trail in their Santa-best.
"There's nothing quite like seeing a stampede of Santas to kick-off the holiday season, and we're happy to be able to support a community-minded organization like The River Fund with such a unique and festive event," says Karolyn Castaldo, Director of Communications for Sunday River.
In addition to Santa Sunday, visitors were able to participate in the first annual Holly Jolly Fun Run 5K road race this year on Saturday, December 1. Both Santa-themed events benefit The River Fund.
The River Fund was established ten years ago as the Sunday River Community Fund, and has granted over $300,000 to local organizations since 2008. Now that it has been established as a 501(c)(3) organization, its mission is to support youth to unleash their potential through education and recreation.
