Upcoming Events at Sunday River Offer the Chance to Get Outside and Make the Best of Winter

NEWRY, ME (January 11, 2021)—In addition to skiing and riding across Sunday River’s eight peaks, January and February offer special outdoor events for all to enjoy. The Maine ski area will offer Indie Demo Day (January 16), Senior Week (January 25-29), the Freeheeler’s Telemark Demo Tour (February 6), plus special twilight skiing, fire dancers, and fireworks shows during holiday periods.

Indie Demo Day, taking place January 16, brings multiple high-end, craft ski and snowboard brands from across North America for riders to try out for the day. This year, some of the brands available include Parlor skis and snowboards out of Cambridge, MA; Meier skis, made in Colorado; and Winterstick Snowboards and West Mountain Ski Company, both hailing from Carrabassett Valley, Maine. It costs $25 to participate, and registration can be found online.

Senior Week, on January 25-29, is Sunday River’s tribute to the hearty crowd of senior skiers and snowboarders who visit us every year. Specials include $49 one-day tickets for those 60 and older, group lessons for $39, and $25 ski demos from Sunday River Sports. Those needing to relax after a long day on the mountain can book a time at the Jordan Spa and receive a complimentary gift along with their treatment. Dining deals around the resort include Monday's Burger Night at Camp, Taco Tuesday at the Foggy Goggle, and Wednesday’s Pasta Night at Sliders.

FreeHeeler’s Demo Tour, put on by Telemarkdown, visits Sunday River on February 6 during their east coast tour with demos and lessons. Seasoned pros and newcomers who want to get into telemark skiing can participate in this free event with a valid lift ticket or season pass.

This season, the resort has scheduled free fireworks shows every weekend from Christmas Vacation through the end of March, including during the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend, as well as Presidents’ Vacation Week. Nearly all firework shows open with two fire dancer performances. Skiers and snowboarders can also enjoy twilight skiing every evening over the school break from February 12-20.

For all events, lodging is available out of Sunday River’s slopeside hotels and budget-friendly inn; The Grand Summit Hotel, Jordan Hotel, and Snow Cap Inn. For more information on current deals, guests can visit sundayriver.com/special-deals or call 800-543-2754 to book.
