Swimming Holes

Cool Off When It Gets Hot

Dive on into the cold, crisp mountain waters of the recommended swimming holes on our namesake, the Sunday River.

The Letter S

The Letter S gets its name from the winding river bends at this serene swim spot. It's long enough to swim laps, has a sandy bottom, and plenty of space on the rocks for a picnic.

Frenchman's Hole

Hands down, the best part about Frenchman's Hole is the cliff. You can flip, jump, and dive off of this cliff into the depths of the chilly water, while more timid friends and family hang out up top in the shallow waters.

Honey Hole

Just upstream from Frenchman's Hole, the Honey Hole has a large, clear pool, plenty of small waterfalls, and rock ledges to sunbathe on.

Getting there

Turn left off of Route 2 in Bethel and follow Sunday River Road for 7 miles. You'll want to stay right at every fork. The Letter S will be your first stop on the left-hand side of the road before the bridges.  When you reach a pair of logging bridges, turn right onto Bull Branch Road. There is a clear parking area for Frenchman's Hole on the left-hand side of the road, but the swimming area is on the right. To reach Honey Hole, continue past Frenchman's Hole and park in one of the roadside pull-offs.
