First Turns of the Season Begin at Sunday River

Skiers and riders hit the slopes with excitement for the start of the 2024/25 season

Newry, Maine (November 14, 2024) – Sunday River Resort kicked off the 2024/25 ski season this morning at 8:45AM, welcoming skiers and riders back to the resort on Locke Mountain. With the excitement of opening day in the air, the resort debuted access via the Locke Triple in the Barker Basin, welcoming New England Passholders, ticket pack holders, and Ikon and Mountain Collective passholders to enjoy their first runs of the season.

“Our team’s passion and hard work are on full display today, and it’s rewarding to see that energy matched by our guests out on the mountain,” said Brian Heon, General Manager. “We are happy to be back doing what we do best: ski and have fun.”

Over the summer, Sunday River continued to invest in its snowmaking infrastructure by adding 160 high-efficiency HKD snowguns across key trails. With over 550 new snowguns introduced in the past three years, these upgrades enhance snow production efficiency, allowing the resort to maximize each weather window while minimizing environmental impact and ensuring consistent snow coverage all season long.

On Halloween, Sunday River became the first ski resort on the East Coast to offer outdoor chairlift-served skiing and riding.

Starting Friday, November 15, day tickets will be available for all guests. For more information on Sunday River and the latest updates on trail conditions, please visit sundayriver.com/mountain-report.
