Sunday River is Open for the 2025/26 Winter Season
Passholders take first runs on Locke Mountain as snowmaking operates around the clock to build early-season terrain
Newry, ME (November 12, 2025)–Winter is back at Sunday River, and the 2025/26 season is officially underway. At 9AM this morning, the Locke Triple began turning, giving passholders their first runs of the season on Locke Mountain.
“Opening day always brings a special kind of energy,” said Brian Heon, General Manager of Sunday River Resort. “The team’s been going nonstop, and it shows. There’s nothing better than hearing those snowguns and seeing guests back out on the mountain.”
Today’s skiing is open to New England Passholders, Ikon Passholders, Mountain Collective, and ticket pack holders, with daily lift tickets available starting tomorrow, November 13. Guests can also enjoy early-season amenities, including Barker Lodge for food and beverages, the Barker Bar, and South Ridge’s Sunday River Sports and Tune Shop for gear and tuning needs.
For the past 24 hours, snowmaking has been going all out, with nearly 300 snowguns moving close to 9,000 gallons of water per minute across multiple peaks. With temperatures holding steady, snowmakers will continue around the clock, working to expand terrain as quickly possible.
