Sunday River Wakes Up to 12 Inches of Fresh Snow on Christmas Eve
Best December conditions in nearly a decade with three feet of snow and more on the way
NEWRY, ME (December 24, 2025)—Christmas came early at Sunday River this year. The mountain picked up a foot of fresh snow overnight, adding to what's been an exceptional December that's already delivered three feet of snow with more on the way.

"December has been incredible for us, and waking up to a foot of snow on Christmas Eve is the perfect exclamation point," said Brian Heon, General Manager of Sunday River Resort. "Between the fresh snow and the efforts of our Mountain Operations team, the timing couldn't be better for families looking to get out and ski."
Cold temperatures have given Sunday River's snowmakers the green light to run nonstop, and they have taken advantage. Between natural snow and round-the-clock snowmaking, December conditions are the best they have been in nearly a decade. The resort currently has the most open terrain in Maine and New Hampshire spanning over 450 acres across eight peaks, with more terrain expansion on the way.
