What's New for Winter

Exciting Additions To Your 2021-2022 Ski Season

With summer officially over now, it’s time to talk about what’s new for winter 2021/22. From snowmaking and sustainability to new experiences and ways to save on lift tickets, we’re psyched for the winter ahead.

Let’s Talk Snow

You already know that Sunday River has the most dependable snow in New England, but we can always make more. In preparation for winter 2021/22, Sunday River installed 9.5 miles of new snowmaking pipe across the resort. That’s not all, we have also installed 131 new tower guns and two fan guns. More snowmaking pipes and new guns = more snow for all of us. Efficiency Maine has also recently awarded grants to Sunday River for the construction of energy-efficient snowmaking equipment for Merrill Hill.

Make Your Happy Place Home

Merrill Hill

One of the most exciting things to come out of Sunday River since the discovery of Eddy the Yeti, Merrill Hill is more than your average real estate development. It doesn’t get much more “ski-in/ski-out” when there is a chairlift practically in your backyard, featuring four trails and snowmaking. Merrill Hill will be open for skiing select dates only during winter 2021/2022, with a grand opening coming in winter 2022/23.

Dream Maker Lodge

This state-of-the-art slopeside condominium complex with 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom units will offer all the amenities of a hotel but with the privacy of a luxury condominium. A sauna, outdoor hot tub, access to ski lockers, and more are what you can expect from this amazing new real estate development. All located 0 minutes away from the slopes. Construction is expected to begin in winter 2021/22 with anticipated completion by winter 2022/23.

Betty the Yeti in the Spotlight

While Eddy the Yeti has established himself here at Sunday River, Betty is the rising star of winter 2021/22. Betty will also be getting her very own picture book detailing how she came to Sunday River, learned to ski, and opened her very own candy and gift shop. What’s more, we’re bringing her vision to life with the new Betty’s Treats and Treasures store at South Ridge. The grand opening of this new store will be in mid-December.

The Forever Project

The Forever Project, which was announced last winter, is our commitment to sustainability. By 2030, Sunday River and our parent company, Boyne Resorts, have a goal of reducing our carbon emissions to net-zero. This winter, Sunday River and the rest of the Boyne Resorts properties will achieve 100% renewable energy for this upcoming winter season through renewable energy credits.

Convenience and Savings

Stay & Save Discount

This winter, when you choose to stay at The Grand Summit, Jordan Hotel, or Snow Cap Inn, you instantly save 10% on lift tickets for two days or more through the resort’s Stay & Save discount. These tickets are only valid for guests staying in resort lodging properties and will have to be purchased online.

Easy Change Lift Tickets

Life happens and sometimes not the way we planned. That is why Sunday River recently improved the Easy Change lift ticket policy for date-specific, pre-purchased tickets. If you can’t make it to the resort on the date you originally planned to, you don’t have to worry. Through Easy Change, you can receive a voucher credit for a day that better fits your schedule. All you have to do is give 48-hours notice in advance of your scheduled arrival. Boom, it’s that easy, and now you can now use your voucher credits anytime through the end of the season for a new lift ticket.

Cashless Payments

Let’s be honest, during the winter it’s hard using gloves for everyday tasks, especially getting money out of your wallet or purse. Keeping this in mind, starting in mid-October, Sunday River will be moving to cashless payments only. An added feature will be the utilization of a resort charge function with RFID season pass holders. All you have to do is link a credit or debit card to your account through the online store and you can use their RFID pass to purchase almost anything at the resort. Season pass holders can also grant and limit access to other season pass holders on their account.

Upgrading Facilities

Big and small upgrades are going in all over the resort. The most important one is that of the renovation to the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Summit Hotel. The Grand Ballroom is the largest meeting space at Sunday River, used for conferences, corporate meetings, and even weddings year-round. Though you may not see or notice some of the upgrades we have made this year, like a new roof or carpeting, trust that our team has been hard at work making these changes. These enhancement projects will set the stage for future infrastructure upgrades in the coming years.

So, which winter 2021/22 project are you most excited for? We’ll see you on the slopes before you know it.
